Traffic

Lake Tisza has relatively good transport, as it is a national distribution point, a meeting of public highways, railways and waterways. This is entirely true of two settlements connected by the large bridge over the Tisza, Tiszafüred and Poroszló. The other villages and settlements on either bank can all be easily reached from these two places, those on the right bank from Poroszló and on the left from Tiszafüred.

Highways

Lake Tisza - situated approx. 140 km from Budapest – can be reached by taking the M3 as far as Füzesabony (112 km) and then travelling along the main Road 33 towards Debrecen. Travelling from Debrecen, the Lake is about 71 km along Road 33, which in 2002-2003 was modernised.

The M3 can also be used when approaching Lake Tisza from Miskolc, taking the motorway as far as Füzesabony before turning off for the Lake.

All motorways have a uniform toll, and it is possible to purchase stickers in advance at most of the larger filling stations.

From Szolnok, the lake’s settlements can be approached by using Roads 4 and then 34.

Most of the roads leading to the lakeside settlements are of good quality and the rest satisfactory. Three-quarters of the roads inside the settlements have road surfaces.

From the point of tourism, it can be taken as a positive factor that Tiszafüred, the lakeside “capital”, is connected by coach to the larger towns that might potentially send visitors. Several coaches arrive daily to and from Budapest (4 each way), Debrecen (7), Eger (5) Miskolc (3), Salgótarján (3) and Szolnok (7).

By Rail

The Lake can also be easily reached by rail, along line 80, changing at Füzesabony and then reaching the lake via line 108 towards Debrecen.

Apart from the traditional passenger and fast trains, most of the Hungarian inter city express trains also stop at Füzesabony.

From Szolnok, take the Budapest – Szolnok – Cegléd – Karcag, changing at Karcag for Tiszafüred and Kisköre for Lake Tisza.
